Kindergarten through Third Grade Art Work

Come learn art fundamentals in this fun after school art program with Curie Elementary’s Art Consultant, Mr. B!

In this after school program, students will meet and complete creative exercises, directed drawings, paintings, and much more. Students will learn art fundamentals and techniques and build upon the skills that they are learning in their elementary and middle school art education.

Kindergarten through 3rd Grade students will focus on the elements of art (composition, proportion, line, shape, and texture) and drawing and painting techniques.

Fourth and Fifth Grade students will focus on drawing fundamentals such as construction lines, value, and texture. Students will be introduced to advanced art materials such as Bristol Paper, kneaded erasers, graphite pencils, blending stumps and more.

Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade students will continue to build on their drawing skills with more advanced techniques and materials. Students will explore complex concepts such as proportion, perspective, shading, and detailed texture. They will refine their understanding of construction lines and learn how to create more realistic and expressive artwork. Middle school artists will work with high-quality materials including Bristol paper, graphite pencils, kneaded erasers, blending stumps, and additional professional tools to enhance their skills and creative expression.

What to Expect:

Where to Meet: Curie students will meet in B3, the art classroom, and dive into projects each week. I will pick up Kindergarteners from their classroom on Wendesday’s. Please have them wait there for me. 1st- 5th graders can walk directly over to the classroom at dismissal. Standley students will meet in X.

Where to Pick up: Curie parents will pick up their students at B3 at the end of class, unless specified that your child is walking/biking home or returning to another after school program.

What to Wear: Please have your children wear clothes that can get messy. We will be painting, using charcoal, pastels, and many other mediums and children should be comfortable during the class. I do have smocks available for use.

What to Bring: Please pack a small snack for your child. Students can have an after school snack outside of the classroom before we get started with our art work.

Absences: There are no make ups for missed classes (due to illness or vacation); however, I will do my best to get your child caught up on anything they may have missed in the prior class.
